Phillip Kapraun
A respected Harvard, Illinois, animal doctor, Dr. Phillip Kapraun focuses his practice on the needs of standardbred race horses and other performance horses. Active with the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Phillip Kapraun emphasizes quality care that begins with in-depth assessment of a horse's illness or lameness.
Dr. Kapraun emphasizes the use of veterinary fluoroscope approaches in diagnosing a full range of lameness issues, many of which can be challenging to identify. He also focuses on finding and eliminating osteochondrosis dessicans (OCD) in yearlings prior to their undergoing training.
Another area in which Dr. Kapraun has extensive experience is in employing honey bee venom when seeking alternative treatments for navicular disease. This equine treatment, which he helped introduce, is currently being studied at the University of Illinois.
Dr. Kapraun’s achievements in his field include receiving the Wisconsin Harness Horsemen's Association’s James Laird Memorial Award for Excellence. In his free time, Dr. Kapraun enjoys camping, canoeing, and fishing in the Quetico Provincial Park and Boundary Waters wilderness areas.
